Vernon McCarty

I grew up in Saint John New Brunswick with my mother and brother. I visited my dad often and we were close. Our family didn’t have a lot of money and I didn’t grow up around people who took personal responsibility for life and their circumstances. I didn’t learn those important life tools at home. I have to say my family loved me very much and did the best they could and I am grateful for support I got and the relationship we have.

I got through school with manors, humor and generally getting along with my teachers. I wasn’t a gifted student and I didn’t put nearly the effort I could have. It wasn’t until my early twenties that it even occurred to me that my conscious choices, attitudes, behaviors, environment, books etc. could have an influence on how my life goes. I grow up thinking life happens to you and it is how it is.

Eventually I discovered personal development, I read books, connected with mentors and coaches, joined accountability groups etc. I got out of construction and into the insurance business when I was 27 because I wanted to help people and I thought helping them understand money and protect their family would be a great way to help. Well it was a shock to my system that the business really didn’t have anything to do with helping people with money and you did learn that either. It was all about moving product and surviving. Deep down I new I had to stick with the business and some how I knew I was in the right place.

I discovered IBC in 2013 and I didn’t have the courage to implement the process in my life or business. I now realize I didn’t understand the problem so I certainly didn’t understand the solution. Fortunately after many years of struggle and survival in the insurance business as I was likely on my way out, I found my course materials from the Nelson Nash institute I had purchased year prior. Like Nelson, my purpose and the answer to my struggle was right under my noise. I put my head down studied the material and passed the Practitioners exam in no time.

I was then blessed to get connected with my first IBC mentor, Richard Canfield. He showed me how to work with clients and help them implement the process. It was the first time in the business I really felt I was helping people. I am now starting see that first group of clients we worked with use and benefit from the systems they set up. About a year or so later, I was feeling unfulfilled and a bit lonely as I was a completely independent advisor and knew very few local Practitioners, even Richard and I lived in different cities.

I shared this with Richard and he thought well enough of me to introduce me to Jayson Lowe, Canada’s leading IBC Practitioner and founder of Ascendant Financial. I admired Jayson from the moment I met him. I Knew he was going to be the guy to coach me to my potential and help me help so many people. Jayson absolutely lives Nelson’s message and that message is woven through our company.

I am a proud member of the Ascendant Financial team and I am so grateful for the opportunity to work with Ascendant, have outstanding mentors and a great team. The impact we have on families and business is now what I live for. I get to learn and teach an avenue to freedom and I get more and more inspired by that everyday.
